Michael is proficient in seven ancient languages (Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic, Koine Greek, Akkadian, Ugaritic, Sumerian, and Arabic) and three modern ones (French, German, and Modern Hebrew). He teaches courses in Bible, Hebrew, Tanakh, and the Ancient Near East at Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Michael earned his Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania in 1999, where he taught for a time, picking up a B.A. and an M.A.R along the journey to his doctorate. He is the author of Deception in GenesisThe Prophet and His Message, and Basics of Ancient Ugaritic, and is the editor and a contributor to Mishneh Todah.
